my english teacher once said that the purpose of language is first to communicate, and second, to establish power relations
one time i spent a good, embarrassing chunk of time pondering, and trying to explain, that the essence of corduroy is warmth
i am most compelled to write when there is chaos in my head. so what im writing often springs from a problem. but that’s not to say that my writing is dark- quite the contrary, its purpose is to heal, to change something, and in that sense, represents the silver lining
i think a lot of unhappiness is caused by thinking about what you can’t do. like, “gahd, i can’t blast my music in my room” or “shucks, i can’t see the outside world from my cubicle,” instead of thinking like “hey, im allowed to have a drink at work while i watch the same play for the 14th time” or “when the summer comes, i can play the glockenspiel on a kayak, if i really wanted to”

a text worthy of publishing:
“realistically speaking, how useful are demographic categories? i understand it’s important to use demographics in statistics when measuring something like social stratification, but in other avenues of life, i don’t find them particularly useful. how do you balance using demographics to categorize people for research that aims to benefit them, but then drop the categories in everyday, social life?” - hana
silence is thinking.
do you ever walk into walmart or a music festival and think wow, there are just too many people in this world? how is anyone more original, more important than anyone else? how can we all possibly be happy, taken care of, heard?

a surprisingly pertinent quote i picked up from a lulu lemon bag:
“how you see the world is a direct reflection of how you see yourself”
